There are three different courts that see family law cases in Ontario:

1.  The Superior Court of Justice;
2.  The Ontario Court of Justice; and
3.  The Family Court of the Superior Court of Justice.

1.  The Superior Court of Justice


The superior court of justice can hear family law and divorce issues including divorce, support claims and property. This court has 51 locations in the province, to go to their website and find a location near you please check:

2.  The Ontario Court of Justice

The Family Court of the Ontario Court of Justice usually hears adoption and child protection cases.

3. The Family Court of the Superior Court of Justice

The Family Court is the only court in Ontario that can hear all types of Family Law Cases, including:

Divorce; Child and spousal support; custody and access to children; division of family property; exclusive possession of the matrimonial home; child protection; and adoption.

The family court is a branch of the Superior Court of Justice and is located in: Barrie, Bracebridge, Brockville, CObourg, Cornwall, Hamilton, Kingston, L'Orignal, Lindsay, London, Napanee, Newmarket, Oshawa, Ottawa, Perth, Peterborough, and St. Catherine's.  It also sits regularly in Collingwood, Huntsville, Midland and Orillia.
